Desktop PCs Still Have Their Place
The demise of the desktop PC has been greatly exaggerated and although the laptop is becoming the computer of choice for many people, the desktop PC should still be considered as the number one choice for serious computer users. The power and memory available when using this type of computer still remains in advance of all but the most powerful of laptops and when it comes to price and value, the desktop is able to offer a whole lot more. It is best to consider your needs before making a decision but if you intend to do serious work at home or in the office, the benefits of a desktop PC will be obvious.
The obvious industry or style of work that needs a really powerful computer has to be desktop publishing. The packages and programmes used in this field take up a lot of memory and need a lot of processing power. Attempting to sue this sort of package on a laptop may leave the machine unable to process anything which can slow the progress of work being made. A powerful desktop PC should be able to handle whatever a designer throws at it while allowing other programmes to run as normal. If you are looking to push your computer to the edge of its powers, the best response will come from a powerful desktop PC.
There is definitely a different psychological impact that comes from using a desktop PC. Many people have a very relaxed relationship with their laptop computer, often using it when sprawled out on the couch or perhaps even in bed. This can often be equated to browsing online or chatting to friends on a social networking so if you are looking to do work, using a machine that was made for work can often set people in the right frame of mind. If you need a psychological push in the right direction, it is fair to say that a desktop PC may help you to get better results than using a laptop computer.
The merits of a desktop PC over a laptop or even a netbook are very much horses for courses and it is up to each individual user to find what is best for them. A casual computer user may find that a laptop suits their needs best and there is nothing wrong with choosing that option. However, the desktop PC is capable of packing a mighty punch and even if you just want to enjoy the best quality PC and online gaming, your needs may be best served by this style of computer.
Laptops are not just the only type of PC found in the home, desktop PCs still have their place whether they’re being used as media servers, playing games or any other high performance tasks that users need the power of a desktop for.
